Justin Willis Breakdown:
Willis is quietly moving up the ranking and maintains his own underrated tag. Although he seems to hold a lot of extra weight he’s among the more athletic heavyweights. On the toes he has fast hands and will certainly have an adequate edge over Curtis Blaydes, whose stand-up continues to appear stiff and predictable. Willis hasn’t been tested in the takedown department but trains with exceptional wrestlers like DC and Cain. Having a complete camp preparing for Blaydes, we expect him to be competitive in this area to keep the fight standing for significant time. Blaydes struggled to takedown southpaw fighters in the past and the size of Willis should be of further aid. With the odds presented, the value is located with the underdog in a stylistic fight that could pose many opportunities.John Makdessi Breakdown:
Makdessi has rather good stand-up and impenetrable takedown defense. He appears to be a couple of levels above his rival Jesus Pinedo, who’s relatively inexperienced and awkward on the feet. He favours flashy kicks but his lack of footwork leaves him open to be bloated and weathered. Makdessi has a high volume and are going to have the ability to consistently land on Pinedo. Since moving to a top new camp that he seems rejuvenated and seemed very impressive in recent outings. The encounter advantage for Makdessi is huge and the only obvious way to eliminate this one is by getting clipped by a crazy kick. The pick is Makdessi, likely via TKO.
Bet = Makdessi at 1.38 (-260) odds. Risk 4 Units to win 1.52 Units.
Frankie Saenz Breakdown:
Saenz is getting older but still owns a style to provide his opponent trouble. He depends upon his wrestling and pressure to fasten rounds while his standup is serviceable. Vera is a crazy fighter who is often losing fights till he finds a comeback win. He’s obviously dangerous but when he cant locate the finish the fight will quickly slip away. Vera will have the youth and rate advantage but Saenz will be the one securing rounds with volume and takedowns from a fighter who fights off his back. The experience edge for Saenz is a big factor against this type of fighter. Saenz will need to steer clear of submissions but a route to success for the underdog is clear.
Bet = Saenz at 2.45 (+145) chances. Risk 3 Units to acquire 4.35 Units.
Chris Gutierrez Breakdown:
Gutierrez looks to have his opponent outmatched in nearly every facet with this matchup. He has the superior striking abilities, more recognized grappling and takedown defense. Additionally the degree of resistance he has experienced far exceeds Macdonald who has mostly confronted boxers with losing records. Macdonald may be undefeated but he has struggled against such lesser fighters and had a few really close fights go to conclusion. His one positive seems to be toughness as he recovers well from being dropped. We enjoy the favourite to do this one completed early.
Bet = Gutierrez at 1.4 (-250) chances. Risk 4 Units to win 1.6 Units.
